Why i-Probono?

i-Probono enables you to network directly with people around the world who have the ability and the drive to help you with your legal matters. On i-Probono you can find assistance quickly, without having to go through multiple sources or fill out time consuming forms. i-Probono has untapped legal resources for you!

On i-Probono you can:
  • access the right pro bono assistance
  • find interns and specialist researchers
  • engage legal professionals, students and academics in your activities.

Which organisations can access i-Probono and for what legal matters?

i-Probono is available to various organisations and groups, including charities, NGOs, advocacy organisations, social enterprises, non-profits and community groups.

There are a wide range of legal matters that a lawyer can assist you with. Legal advice can relate to:
  • the services that you provide others
  • an internal matter relating to your operations
  • queries from the members that you support
On i-Probono you can also source assistance from students and academics for:
  • internships
  • specialist research
  • drafting an article for your publication

As long as the assistance you need can be met by a lawyer, student or academic contributing their specialist skills, you can post a project!

How does i-Probono work?

Profile

The first step is to create the organisation profile. The profile is straightforward, containing the basic details of your organisation. i-Probono will never share the name or contact details of the staff registering from the organisation.

Matching

After completing your i-Probono profile, you and your colleagues can use it as a one stop portal to post projects and connect with others on the network. You can specify exactly what sort of volunteer you are looking for and the skills you require.

When the project is posted, you will be matched with people that fit your specification. You can also search for people that are outside your specification (perhaps in a different location). Details are anonymised for data protection (you cannot see a person’s name or place of work/study).

Connecting

When have found the people that you are interested in, you can register your interest by clicking the ‘Connect’ button located on the project page. Once you connect, the person is alerted and they see your message and profile. When they reply, you are connected!

Just as you can see people that fit your project, people are also matched to you. When you post a project that fits an individual's profile, they are sent an email alert. That person can connect with the project, which triggers an email alert to you where you can see their profile and their message.

Once a person connects, you are able to see their full profile including their name and place of work/study. If you don’t think they are suitable, then you are under no obligation to respond. If you are interested then you can reply with further details of the project.

Does i-Probono cost anything?

Testimonials
"The support provided by i-Probono played a pivotal part in helping us expand as an organisation in 2009. i-Probono connected us with one of the city’s best IP lawyers to assist us in governing our next round of expansion funding. The funding means that Teaching Leaders can have a greater impact on students and staff in the most challenging inner city schools. I would strongly recommend i-Probono to other organisations."
Sharath Jeevan – CEO, Teaching Leaders

"We sourced crucial legal assistance through i-Probono to set up our sister UK entity. In 2009 an attractive opportunity arose to commence operations in the UK. As the parent entity is based in Australia, it was important to have specialised UK legal help. i-PB enabled us to connect efficiently with a top tier law firm to establish the entity and review a number of legal agreements. It is delightful working with the i-PB team."
Wei Soo – Director of Governance and Operations, The Global Poverty Project

"i-Probono made legal assistance easily accessible for us. I was going on maternity leave and needed a consultancy agreement drawn up to enable a charity in India to undertake part of my work. Through i-Probono, we sourced a lawyer quickly and they provided a smooth transfer to my cover in India. The lawyer not only drafted the contract but patiently explained it to me and made it compatible with Indian law. I will definitely use
i-Probono again."
Abha Thorat-Shah – Director, The British Asian Trust

"Small charities can rarely access top legal professionals - i-Probono made it happen for us. We were developing our UK website and needed to be sure we had a water tight contract that protected our data and intellectual property rights under UK and international law. i-Probono provided an invaluable service and we were able to access legal advice from a leading technology lawyer on complex contractual issues."
Penelope Mawson – Director of Development and Communications, BRAC UK
